Got your website up? You've crossed the first hurdle! Now we need to promote your website, to let people know it exists, and get them to visit it!


In fact, for a money-making site, website promotion is absolutely critical. Without traffic, there is no one to buy or click on ads. The revenue you get is proportional to the website traffic you get.


Fortunately there're many things you can do to promote your website and get traffic. And not just any traffic. What you're aiming for is targeted traffic, looking for just the kind of stuff your website offers.


Here, and in the next few pages, we provide a basic introduction to the standard ways to promote website. However, this whole area of website promotion is so huge, and the competition for online traffic so intense, that you should get yourself a more detailed course on traffic generation.

There are so many things involved in website promotion that I've grouped them, for ease of understanding in this overview, as follows.


Ways to Promote Website:

  1. Paid Strategies: these include all types of paid ads, as well as paying for traffic by giving a commission to people who promote your products or services. For a full explanation of such methods, see Paid Web Traffic.

    It is not always cost-effective to rely on paid traffic alone. The strategies below give you free website traffic.



  2. Search Engine Strategies: this involves getting traffic from search engines and directories, when people search on terms related to your niche or product. This kind of traffic is highly coveted as it is targeted to what you offer, and it is free.

  3. Link Strategies: this involves getting backlinks to your website. Backlinks, sometimes called inbound or incoming links, are links that point to your website from another website.

    They are important to website promotion for 2 reasons. The 1st is that backlinks form part of the SEO strategies above. The 2nd is more straightforward -- links from other websites channel visitors from those sites to your website.

  4. Email Strategies: visitors can come to your website through a link in an email or email newsletter you send them. In fact, even without a website, you could make money from emails or email newsletters, for example when you use such communication to persuade people to buy an affiliated product.

    But, the problem here, just how do you get hold of a mailing list to send your emails to in the first place? Sending unsolicited emails would be spam and resented by the people who receive them, who had not indicated any interest in what you offer in the first place.
